Have you ever wondered if Fairpicture also offers underwater photography and videography? Yes, we do.
We were delighted to demonstrate these skills when the Swiss Re Foundation asked us to showcase their partnership with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the scaling of a project in Belize in which reef brigades are trained to conserve the coral reefs that protect their communities from natural hazards.
Visual creator Nahún Rodríguez took over this exciting assignment, travelled to the Turneffe Atoll and came back with video interviews of relevant stakeholders, B-roll footage and impressive drone shots and photos – from people, landscape and the underwater world with its stunning corals.

Coral reefs protect coastal communities against hurricanes and tropical storms. But storms can also harm reefs by breaking coral colonies or smothering them in sand. Swift coral restoration and repair can reduce the damage.
With support from the Swiss Re Foundation, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and partners scaled up training brigades of local volunteers in Belize at the peak of the devastating Hurricane Lisa. This includes setting up administrative and support structures and a post-storm response protocol, as well as brigades and financing.
Perhaps the most important insight from this project is the need to help businesses and private citizens recognise the connection between threatened nature and their own interests. TNC’s approach is to promote investment, engage the community and have a solution ready before seeking funding to mitigate risk.

Victor Faux, a coral restoration practitioner with the community-based organisation Fragments of Hope and resident of the coastal village Placencia, volunteers as a brigade trainer and member. He’s one of the nearly 50% of Belizeans who depend on the reef for coastal protection, their livelihoods or both. In this video Victor shares why he cares about the reef and how the brigades help conserve it.

The visual material of Nahún was used in a variety of ways by our client. The Swiss Re Foundation edited small videos for Twitter and LinkedIn, but the core element was their multimedia story in an impressive scrollytelling-format. Also, this impact story will be covered in their annual report.
